7,871 confirmed with COVID-19 on Oct. 6; 25 deaths reported

COVID-19 was confirmed on 7,871 people in Kerala on October 6 while 25 deaths were confirmed on the day.

The district-wise break-up of infected on the day were Thiruvananthapuram 989, Malappuram 854, Kollam 845, Ernakulam 837, Thrissur 757, Kozhikode 736, Kannur 545, Palakkad 520, Kottayam 427, Alappuzha 424, Kasaragod 416, Pathanamthitta 330, Wayanad 135 and Idukki 56 districts.

The people whose deaths have been confirmed due to COVID-19 on the day were Brigitte (70) from Vettukadu, Sreedharan (63) from Nemam, Anthony Morris (64) from Valiyathura, Girija (59) from Nellivila, Shaji (37) from Kovalam, Tajuddin (62) from Amaravila, Sreenivasan (71) from Chembanti, Vijayababu (61) from Tirumala, Shankara Subramanya Iyer (78) from Fort, Kabir (63) from Kunnikode, Kollam, Subaida (52) from Kadapakkada, Prabhavathi Amma (73) from Chavara, Sreekumar (52) from Mukhathala, Charles (80) from Pattathanam, Sathyan (65) from Thaikkal, Alappuzha, Sabu Jacob (53) from Changanassery, Kottayam, Raju Kurian (75) from Vadavathur, Shyamala (60) from Karappuzha, Etheri (75) from Perinthalmanna, Malappuram, Fathima (61) from Uppada, Sayedalavi (60) from Kuttipuram, Ibrahim Kutty (78) from Areekode, Balakrishnan (71) from Katachira, Kannur and P. Raveendran (73), and Raveendran (52), a native of Cheruvathur, Kasaragod. This brings the total death toll to 884. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.

Fifty-four of those diagnosed with the disease were from foreign countries and 146 from other States. A total of 6,910 people were infected through contact. Contact source for 640 was not clear.

A total of 111 health workers were infected through contact. All 10 INHS employees in Ernakulam district were affected.

The test results of 4,981 people who were diagnosed and treated were negative. There were currently 2,63,094 people under surveillance in various districts of the State. Of these, 2,33,703 are under home / institutional quarantine and 29,391 in hospitals. A total of 2,444 people were admitted to hospitals.

A total of 60,494 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. A total of 32,63,691 samples have so far been sent for testing, including routine samples, Airport Surveillance, Pooled Sentinel, CBNAT, Trunat, CLIA and Antigen Assay. As part of Sentinel Surveillance, 2,09,482 samples were sent for testing from priority groups such as health workers, guest workers and individuals with greater social contact.
There are 13 new hotspots and 17 areas have been excluded from the hotspot. With this, there were a total of 718 hotspots.
