78 confirmed with COVID-19 in Kerala on June 12

Seventy-eight people have been confirmed with COVID-19 on June 12, according to Minister for Health K.K. Shailaja. One patient in Kannur died. Fourteen each from Thrissur and Malappuram districts, 13 in Alappuzha, seven from Pathanamthitta, five each from Ernakulam and Palakkad districts, four each from Kollam, Kozhikode and Kasargod districts, three each from Kottayam and Kannur (One dead) one each from Thiruvananthapuram and Idukki districts have been confirmed with the viral infection.

Of these 36 people had arrived from abroad (UAE-17, Kuwait-12, Sauid Arabia-4, Oman-2, the Maldives 1), and 31 from other states (Maharashtra-16, Delhi-7, Tamil Nadu – 3, Karnataka – 2, Andhra Pradesh – 1, Jharkand – 1. Jammu & Kashmir – 1). Ten people contracted the virus through contact (Thrissur — 7, Malappuram — 3).

This included Usman Kutty, 71, who died in Kannur on June 11 has been confirmed with COVID on June 12. He had arrived from Mumbai by train. Kutty was a heart patient and had severe lung infection too.  This brings the total of those who died of COVID-9 in the state to 19.

Meanwhile, the results of 32 people who were under treatment turned negative. Seven from Kollam district, six from Palakkad, four each from Idukki, Ernakulam (One Thiruvananthapuram native), and Thrissur districts, two each from Kozhikode and Kannur (including one Kasargod native), one each from Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Kasargod were the people whose results turned negative.

Now, there are 1,303 people who have been positive and are under treatment. A total of 999 patients were cured of the virus and 2,27.402 people were under observation. Of these 2,25,417 were under house/institutional quarantine, 1985 were under observation in hospitals and 242 were admitted to hospitals on June 12.

In the last 24 hours 5,001 samples were tested. Until now, 1,06,850 people were sent for tests (including in private labs). Of these the results of 3,392 samples have to be received.

Of the 28,356 samples that were collected as part of the Sentinel Surviallance from health workers, guest labourers, social workers and other priority sectors, 26,143 samples turned negative.

The 1,40,457 samples sent for testing included routine sample, augmented sample, Sentinel sample, fluid Sentinel sample, CB Nat and True Nat.

Nine new hotspots were declared which included Vengad, Kadannappali-Panappuzhua in Kannur, Vadanapalli, Endiyoor, Chavakkad municipality, Thrissur Corporation in Thrissur Thennala in Malappuram, Kuruthodu, and Thrikkodithanam in Kottayam district. Fourteen regions have been exempted from hotspots and there are 128 hotspots in total
