5,942 COVID-19 cases confirmed on Feb 6

Kerala reported 5,942 fresh Covid-19 cases on February 6(Saturday), informed Health Minister K. K. Shailaja in a press statement.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam – 898, Kozhikode – 696, Malappuram – 652, Kollam – 525, Kottayam – 512, Pathanamthitta – 496, Thiruvananthapuram – 480, Thrissur – 448, Alappuzha – 410, Palakkad – 235, Kannur – 182, Wayanad – 179, Idukki – 167 and Kasaragod – 62. One of the UK returnee tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

So far, 79 UK returnees tested positive for the virus infection. 62 of them have recovered. 10 among the patients have been identified with the mutant virus strain.

82,804 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. With this the state has conducted one crore tests.

The test positivity rate is at 7.18 percent. So far, 1,00,30,809 samples have been tested across various priority groups. 16 deaths have been confirmed in the last 24 hours.

Ninety eight of the coronavirus patients came from outside the state.

5,420 people have contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 394 persons remains unidentified.

Sixteen COVID deaths were confirmed in the state taking the COVID death toll to 3,848.

Thirty health workers also tested positive. Among them, 7 were from Kannur, 5 from Kozhikode, 4 each from Kollam and Ernakulam, 3 from Thiruvananthapuram, 2 each from Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram and 1 from Idukki. 6,178 recoveries were reported on Saturday.

The district-wise statistics of recoveries is: Thiruvananthapuram – 485, Kollam – 325, Pathanamthitta – 400, Alappuzha – 366, Kottayam – 1050, Idukki – 258, Ernakulam – 690, Thrissur – 451, Palakkad – 252, Malappuram – 571, Kozhikode – 619, Wayanad – 340, Kannur – 279 and Kasaragod – 92. There are 67,543 active Covid cases in the state.

8,90,720 people have recovered from the disease. There are 2,19,050 people under observation in the state. Out of this, 2,08,113 are under home/ institutional quarantine and 10,937 people are in hospitals. 1,395 people were taken to hospitals on Saturday.

Thirteen areas were added to the hotspot list while four regions were removed from the list. There are currently 434 hotspots in the state.
