5,456 confirmed with COVID-19 on Dec. 18 in Kerala

Kerala reported 5,456 new coronavirus positive cases after 54,472 tests on Friday. The state also registered 4,701 recoveries in the last 24 hours, the Health department informed in a press statement.

The district wise distribution of positive cases is: Kozhikode – 674, Thrissur – 630, Ernakulam – 578, Kottayam – 538, Malappuram – 485, Kollam – 441, Pathanamthitta – 404, Palakkad – 365, Alappuzha – 324, Thiruvananthapuram – 309, Kannur – 298, Wayanad – 219, Idukki – 113 and Kasaragod – 78.

The test positivity rate is at 10.02 percent. So far, 72,33,523 samples were tested in different priority groups.

23 deaths were confirmed in the state. With this, the total number of coronavirus fatalities rose to 2,757. Out of the total number of positive cases, 91 people came from outside the state. 4,722 people contracted the virus through contact. The virus source of 606 cases has not been identified.
