5,042 confirmed with COVID-19 on Oct. 5 in Kerala; 4,640 cured

COVID-19 has been confirmed in 5,042 people in Kerala on October 5 while 23 deaths have been confirmed due to the infection. A total of 4,640 have been cured on the day.

The district-wise tally of the number of people infected were Ernakulam 705, Thiruvananthapuram 700, Kozhikode 641, Malappuram 606, Kollam 458, Thrissur 425, Kottayam 354, Kannur 339, Palakkad 281, Kasaragod 207, Alappuzha 199, Idukki 71, Wayanad 31 and Pathanamthitta 25.

The people who died due to COVID-19 Alphonse (72) from Balaramapuram, Thiruvananthapuram, Sarasamma (72) from Parasala, Padmanabhan (82) from Vayakkal, Kollam, Fathima Beevi (75) from Avalukunnu, Alappuzha, Robert (74) from Maralikulam, Prabhakar (69) from Pallipad, Sarangadharan (69) from Aroor.

George (86) from Perur, Kottayam, Joseph Chacko (63) from Changanassery, PM Abdul Salam (50), from Edayappuram, Ernakulam, K.M Bawa (68) a native of Nedumbassery, and KS Sheela (48), a native of Mooppadadam, Thevan (71) from Kompara, Hamsa (74) from Kakkanad, Muhammad Yusuf (75) from Mathilakam, Thrissur, Balakrishnan (83) from Ollukkara, Eliamma (67) from Kundukadu; Kunhappa (70) from Angadipuram, Malappuram, Muraleedharan (68) from Thenjipalam, Raghavan (68) from Nadapuram, Kozhikode, Kalyani (75) from Karivallur, Kannur, Abdul Majeed (76) from Chala and PP Usman (69)from Mambaram. This brought the total death toll to 859. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.

Of those confirmed with COVID-19 on the day, 29 came from foreign countries and 102 from other States. A total of 4,338 people were infected through contact. Contact source for 450 was unclear. A total of 110 health workers were infected through contact. Thirteen INHS employees in Ernakulam district were also affected.

The test results of 4,640 patients who were diagnosed with the disease were negative. There were currently 2,58,446 people under surveillance in various districts of the state. Of these, 2,27,942 are under home / institutional quarantine and 30,504 in hospitals. A total of 2964 people were admitted to hospitals on the day.

A total of 38,696 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. A total of 31,98,423 samples have so far been sent for testing, including routine samples, Airport Surveillance, Pooled Sentinel, CBNAT, Trunat, CLIA and Antigen Assay. As part of Sentinel Surveillance, 2,08,481 samples were sent for testing from priority groups, including health workers, guest workers, and individuals with greater social contact.

There were four new hotspots. Seven areas were excluded from the hotspot. With this, there are a total of 722 hotspots.
