488 confirmed with COVID-19 in Kerala on July 11

Another record number of 488 people were confirmed with COVID-19 on July 11 in Kerala, while 143 patients were cured of the virus infection. Of the total 234 got the infection through contact.

167 of the infected had arrived from abroad and 76 from other States. There are 16 new hotspots taking the total number of hotspots to 195.

87 people confirmed with the infection in Alappuzha district, for the first time the district. Out of 87 cases, an alarming number of 51 cases were through contact.

Two health workers, four DSC, two ITBP, and two BSF personnel are also among those contracted disease on July 11.

The district-wise breakup of positive cases is: Thiruvananthapuram 69, out of which 46 are through contact and sources of 11 cases are unknown, 54 are from Pathanamthitta, out of which 25 are contact patients, 51 are from Malappuram out of which 27 are through contact. In Ernakulam, there is a total of 47 positive cases out of which 30 are through contact and sources of 5 are unknown. 48 cases in Palakkad, 29 in Thrissur, 19 in Kannur, 18 in Kasaragod, 18 in Kollam out of which seven are through contact and sources of 2 are unknown. 17 cases are reported in Kozhikode out of which 8 are through contact.

Perinthalmanna market in Malappuram district shut as lorry driver who visited the place tested coronavirus. The Kozhikode Collector has announced that all fishing harbours in the district will be restricted zones from July 11.

Forty-five wards in Thiruvananthapuram are designated as containment zones. In Poonthura 1,366 antigen tests were done, out of them 222 positive cases were reported. Strict restrictions are enforced in all markets in Kozhikode until July 17.

Kayamkulam market will be shut. Malappuram has four COVID-19 clusters, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan during the evening briefing session. Several Ponnani health officials too had contracted the virus. Sources of a few cases are unknown, hence the restrictions have been enforced in these areas.

The CM also said that Aluva market has now been considered a cluster and efforts are on to intensify testing in this region. He warned that the state is on the brink of community transmissions. A Covid Response Team was formed to strengthen the operations in containment areas. This will include personnel from the police, revenue and health. The team will work 24 hours a day.

A total of 1,82,050 people are under surveillance in various districts of the state. Out of these 3,691 are in isolation at hospitals and the rest are in-home or institutional quarantine. 570 people were admitted to the hospitals today.
