20,000 coronavirus deaths in next three weeks, CDC issues dire warning

NIRMAL YESODA

Even after eight months after the initial outbreak, the novel coronavirus that originated from Wuhan, China, is showing no signs of ending its killing spree. Amid the chaos, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has warned that there could be more than 20,000 coronavirus related deaths in the next three weeks in the United States.

According to the latest updates, the deadly pandemic has claimed the lives of more than 1,54,000 Americans, and the total number of positive cases has risen to 4.6 million. The CDC report warns that the total number of deaths in the country could reach somewhere around 168,000 to 182,000 by August 22.

CDC also revealed that new surge in casualties could be mostly reported in Alabama, Kentucky, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, and Washington. Medical experts believe that the relaxation of lockdown measures in many states to reopen the economy is one of the primary reasons behind this drastic surge in COVID-19 positive cases.

However, in one of his recent tweets, United States President Donald Trump has revealed that the rise in coronavirus positive cases is mainly due to the increased number of testings in the country. He had also claimed that the permanent shutdown of the country is not a solution to contain the pandemic.

A few days back, Anthony Fauci, one of the lead members of the Trump Administration’s White House Coronavirus Task Force had claimed that the pandemic is a perfect storm, and there is no end in near sight.
