A total of 1,417 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Kerala on August 11 while 1,426 patients recovered from the disease. Of the total, 1,242 were cases of local transmission and the contact sources in 105 people were not traceable. Again, of the total, 62 cases are of those who returned from abroad and 75 from other states, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.
Thirty-six healthcare workers were also infected. The Chief Minister also offered his condolences on the five deaths reported.
Chellaiyan (68), Maniyan (80) and Prema (52) from Thiruvananthapuram district, Kumba Maradi (75) from Kannur district and Rita Charles (87) from Ernakulam district are the deceased. The COVId related death toll in the State is now 120.
The district-wise figures of the positive cases are 297 from Thiruvananthapuram district, 242 in Malappuram district, 158 from Kozhikode district, 147 in Kasaragod district, 146 from Alappuzha district, 141 in Palakkad district, 133 from Ernakulam district, 32 in Thrissur district, 30 from Kannur district, 25 in Kollam district, 24 from Kottayam district, 20 in Pathanamthitta district, 18 from Wayanad district and four in Idukki district.
The details of those infected through contact are 279 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 195 in Malappuram district, 140 in Kasargod district, 131 in Alappuzha district, 127 in Kozhikode district, 125 in Ernakulam district, 114 in Palakkad district, 28 in Thrissur district, 24 in Kollam district, 23 in Kottayam district, 22 in Kannur district, 18 in Wayanad district, 12 in Pathanamthitta district and four in Idukki district.
The infected healthcare workers 12 in Thiruvananthapuram district, seven in Palakkad district, five in Kasaragod district, four in Malappuram district, three each in Ernakulam and Kannur districts, and two in Kozhikode district. A cabin crew member in Kozhikode district and a KSE employee in Thrissur district are also among those infected with coronavirus.
The district-wise figures of the patients who tested negative today are 498 from Thiruvananthapuram district, 266 in Kasaragod district, 103 from Kozhikode district, 70 each in Alappuzha and Ernakulam districts, 68 from Idukki district, 65 in Thrissur district, 51 from Malappuram district, 48 in Wayanad district, 47 from Kottayam district, 41 in Pathanamthitta district, 40 from Palakkad district, 32 in Kollam district and 27 from Kannur district.
So far, 24,046 people have been cured of COVID and presently, there are 12,721 patients who are undergoing treatment for the disease.
There are a total of 1,49,707 people under observation across the state, 1,37,586 under home or institutional quarantine and 12,121 in hospitals; 1,456 people were admitted to the hospital on August 11.
Today there are 25 new hotspots while 32 areas have been excluded from the list. At present, there are 523 hotspots in the State.
The Chief Minister informed that three more bodies have been recovered on August from the Rajamala landslide disaster site at Munnar in Idukki district. The death toll in this natural calamity has reached 52.
