1,211 confirmed with COVID-19 on Aug. 9 in Kerala

COVID-19 has been confirmed for 1,211 people in Kerala on August 9. A total of 1,026 people were infected through contact. Of the total, 76 confirmed cases are from foreign countries and 78 from other states.

The district-wise break-up of those infected are 292 people from Thiruvananthapuram district, 170 people from Malappuram district, 139 people from Kottayam district, 110 people from Alappuzha district, 106 people from Kollam district, 78 people from Palakkad district, 69 people from Kozhikode district, 56 people each from Kasaragod district and Ernakulam districts, 41 people from Kannur district, 30 people from Pathanamthitta district, 25 people from Wayanad district, 24 people from Thrissur district and 17 people from Idukki district.

Abdul Khader (67), a native of Thrikkarippur, Kasaragod, who died on August 4, while KV Rafi (64), a native of Palluruthy, Ernakulam, who died on August 6 have been confirmed with COVID-19. This brings the total death toll to 108. Further deaths will be confirmed after NIV testing in Alappuzha.

On August, a total of 1,026 people were infected through contact. The contact source of 103 of them was not clear. The number of infected district-wise break-up is 281 in Thiruvananthapuram district, 145 in Malappuram district, 115 in Kottayam district, 99 in Alappuzha district, 88 in Kollam district, 56 in Kozhikode district, 49 each in Palakkad and Kasaragod districts, 48 in Ernakulam district, 28 in Kannur district, 24 in Wayanad district, 17 in Thrissur district, 14 in Idukki district and 13 in Pathanamthitta district.

Twenty-seven health workers were affected by the disease. Five cases were reported in Thrissur district, four each in Kollam, Ernakulam and Kozhikode districts, three each in Thiruvananthapuram district, two each in Palakkad and Kannur districts and one each in Malappuram, Wayanad and Kasaragod districts.

One air crew in Malappuram district and 2 DSCs in Kannur district. Employees and an INHS employee in Ernakulam district were also affected.

The test results of 970 people turned negative. There are currently 1,49,357 people under surveillance in various districts of the State. Of those under observation, 1,37,615 are under home / institutional quarantine and 11,742 are under observation in hospitals. A total of 1,278 people were admitted to the hospital today. There were 34 new hotspots on the day and eight areas have been excluded from the hotspot.
