Workshop Unveils Master Plan for Salalah Airport City, Highlighting Strategic Development and Investment Opportunities

Salalah, Oman : Oman Airports recently hosted an introductory workshop to present the master plan for Salalah Airport City, drawing the participation of key government and private stakeholders from across Dhofar Governorate. The session aimed to showcase the project’s investment potential, economic viability, and its expected direct and indirect returns, while reinforcing Oman’s broader sustainable development vision.

The event forms part of Oman Airports’ efforts to enhance strategic partnerships and institutional collaboration across sectors, underscoring its commitment to fostering integrated development and regional growth.

During the workshop, attendees were presented with preliminary outputs of the master plan, which outlined targeted economic sectors and proposed land uses within the planned airport city. Eng. Salim Al Harassi, Senior Director of Infrastructure Projects at Oman Airports, delivered an in-depth presentation, emphasizing the project’s role as a strategic economic and logistical hub, linking Salalah to key sectors such as tourism and logistics.

The session also reviewed the implementation phases and proposed development timeline, with Oman Airports reiterating its dedication to aligning the project with national infrastructure priorities and applying best-in-class standards to ensure long-term sustainability and efficiency.

A significant milestone supporting the airport city’s vision is the recent launch of Oman’s first direct air-sea cargo transfer initiative, seamlessly connecting Salalah Port with Salalah Airport. This move strengthens the Sultanate’s logistics ecosystem by capitalizing on the close proximity between the airport, port, and free zone.

Salalah Airport’s state-of-the-art cargo terminal, covering 20,000 square meters, currently handles up to 50,000 tons annually—with potential expansion to 100,000 tons. The facility includes cold storage capabilities for temperature-sensitive goods and a dedicated 2,500-square-meter live animal handling unit.

Positioned as one of Oman’s key aviation gateways, Salalah Airport provides critical connectivity to Europe, the Indian subcontinent, and the Far East, making it an ideal launchpad for the region’s ambitions in trade, tourism, and investment.
