Woman raped, forced to sit naked for black magic; husband, mother-in-law under custody

A case was registered when the woman lodged a complaint again at Chadayamangalam police station after the Elanthoor human sacrifice case surfaced.

Kollam: Chadayamangalam police have taken two people into custody over a complaint of sexual assault and black magic in Kollam. The complainant, who  is an Attingal native, accused her husband and mother-in-law of forcing her to strip naked in the name of ridding her of evil spirits.

The arrestees are her mother-in-law and brother-in-law. Though the complainant approached the police in 2016 soon after the incident, the police allegedly refused to take any action. However, a case was registered when the woman lodged a complaint again at Chadayamangalam police station after the Elanthoor human sacrifice case surfaced.

The complainant informed that a person named Abdul Jabbar had been constantly assaulting her sexually since her marriage and her husband’s family facilitated this. When she complained to her husband that another accused Nilamel Siddique   had torn her clothes, the husband said it was a part of the black magic. The woman moved a divorce petition after three months of marriage and the legal procedures are underway.
