With 5,772 new cases Kerala’s COVID-19 tally reaches at 5,57,441

Kerala’s COVID-19 case count reached 5,57,441 on November 21, with the state reporting 5,772 fresh cases. The state also registered 6,719 recoveries since November 20. In the last 24 hours, 60,210 samples have been tested. In total, 58,09,226 samples were sent for testing. The test positivity rate is 9.59.

So far, 4,88,437 people recovered from the disease, while 66,856 patients are still under treatment in various hospitals across the state, Health Minister K K Shailaja said in a statement.

The minister also confirmed 25 more deaths on this day. The official death toll now stands at 2,022.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases are: Ernakulam – 797, Malappuram – 764, Kozhikode –710, Thrissur – 483, Palakkad – 478, Kollam – 464, Kottayam – 423, Thiruvananthapuram – 399, Alappuzha – 383, Pathanamthitta – 216, Kannur – 211, Idukki – 188, Wayanad – 152 and Kasaragod– 104.

Local transmission of COVID-19 continues to be on the higher side as 4,989 of the newly reported cases contracted the virus through contact. Of this, the infection sources of 639 are unknown, the minister said. Apart from this, 53 healthcare workers also contracted the virus.

The district-wise statistics of contact cases are: Ernakulam – 609, Malappuram – 733, Kozhikode –668, Thrissur – 464, Palakkad – 269, Kollam – 458, Kottayam – 419, Thiruvananthapuram – 271, Alappuzha – 375, Pathanamthitta – 165, Kannur – 166, Idukki – 160, Wayanad – 141 and Kasaragod– 91.

The district-wise recoveries are: Thiruvananthapuram – 609, Kollam – 681, Pathanamthitta – 167,Alappuzha – 919, Kottayam – 271, Idukki – 72, Ernakulam – 658, Thrissur – 680, Palakkad – 590, Malappuram – 740, Kozhikode – 622, Wayanad – 79, Kannur – 473 and Kasaragod – 158.

There are 66,856 active coronavirus cases in Kerala. As many as 3,18,079 are under observation. Among them, 3,01,749 are in home/institutional quarantine while 16,330 are in hospitals. 1,846 were admitted to hospitals on November 21.

Six new covid hotspots were identified in the state on Saturday while three regions were removed from the list. There are a total of 560 hotspots in the state.
