Weather alert: Air trough to cause rains in Oman, temperatures to drop

MUSCAT: An air trough is likely to impact the northern governorates from Sunday, 15 December, to Tuesday, 17 December, 2024, bringing scattered rain, according to Oman Meteorology.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Oman Meteorology said: “The latest weather maps and numerical forecasts indicate that an air trough will pass from Sunday evening until Tuesday over the northern governorates, with an influx of clouds and chances of scattered rain. This may lead to the flow of some valleys in Musandam Governorate, parts of the Al Hajar Mountains, and along sections of the Sea of Oman coastline.”

According to Oman Met, there will be a drop in temperatures due to the trough. “Residents are advised to excise caution particularly in affected areas prone to rain-induced flooding and high winds. Mariners should be aware of rough sea conditions, and motorists are urged to drive carefully due to potential low visibility from dust and rain,” the statement added.
