US Congress confirms Biden win, Trump finally concedes

Hours after pro-Trump supporters stormed in the Capitol to stop Congress from certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s election victory, both houses of Congress resumed their work on certifying Biden’s Electoral College win. The Republican leader finally conceded and agreed to enable an “orderly transition”as Joe Biden takes office as President in less than two weeks.

Democrat Joe Biden is now cleared to be sworn in as the US President on January 20. Vice President Mike Pence declared on Thursday that Congress had confirmed the Electoral College tally of states’ results showing Biden the winner in the US election.

Several lawmakers in United States have demanded immediate removal of President Donald Trump from office, alleging that he incited his supporters who stormed the Capitol in an unprecedented incident that shook the world and dented the democracy of America.

Some of Donald Trump’s top aides, including his national security adviser, are likely to resign following violence at the US Capitol by a pro-Trump mob, CNN quoted sources as saying.

National security adviser Robert O’Brien, deputy national security adviser Matt Pottinger and deputy chief of staff Chris Liddell are all considering resigning.

Meanwhile, Stephanie Grisham, first lady Melania Trump’s chief of staff, and White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Matthews have already put in their papers.

Meanwhile The US House of Representatives on Wednesday joined the senate in rejecting a move by allies of President Donald Trump to overturn Democrat Joe Biden’s victory in Arizona.

The Democratic-led House voted 303-121 against the measure. Apparently all votes in favour came from Republicans. But after the violent protesters mobbed the Capitol on Wednesday they reversed the course.
