TN govt college admissions going virtual

Government arts and science colleges and polytechnics will accept online applications for the academic year 2020-21 from July 20, said Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister K P Anbalagan on Thursday.

The education minister said that applications will only be received through online. This is a drastic change and may be the first in the history of Tamil Nadu’s education scenario.

The decision was taken in order to curb COVID-19 spread.  Aspirants can apply to the colleges through www.tngsa.in and www.tndceonline.org and polytechnics through www.tngptc.in and www.tngptc.com.

Students can apply to three courses in college using one application and there is no limit on the number of colleges students can apply to. The students can pick a college of their choice and groups of their choice using the various drop down boxes on the website.

There are a total of 109 government arts and science colleges in the state with about 92,000 seats. Every year, over two lakh students apply for these seats.

According to the statistics of the state’s Higher Education Department, as many as 23,580 engineering aspirants have applied, only a day after the government opened applications for engineering seats.

The whole process of certificate verification, special counselling and supplementary counselling will be held online.  Students can apply on www.tndte.gov.in, www.tnea online.org.

The online registration of applications for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) 2020 has started and students can apply for counselling by August 16.
