A few days back that Aamir Khan, the Mr. Perfectionist of Bollywood, met with Turkish first lady Emine Erdogan. The meeting of Aamir with Emine did not go well with his fans, as they claim that the actor decided to meet her at a time when the relationship between Turkey and India are getting strained. In the Kashmir issue, Emin had criticized India’s decision to scrap article 370 in Kashmir.

As Aamir Khan is now receiving negative criticisms from all corners, several Bollywood movie buffs have apparently started a campaign to dislike the trailer of Aamir’s upcoming movie ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’. It should be noted that the trailer of Sadak 2 which was released recently had garnered millions of dislikes as audiences alleged the movie a product of nepotism.

Aamir Khan is widely considered one of the most talented actors in India, and he enjoys a huge fan following in all nooks of the nation. However, his decision to meet Erdogan could turn out to be a fatal mistake he ever committed in his life, as many people have started hate pages of the actor to degrade his upcoming movie. Some of these people even call Aamir Khan, an ‘epitome of hypocrisy’, and they argue that several Bollywood stars are currently a part of an anti-national campaign.

Amid all these uproars, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi has claimed that Turkey is the biggest invisible threat to India.

“Erdogan is on a mission to become a new self-appointed Caliph. He has always been anti-India and Turkey’s religious directorate under him is funding extremism in India. Turkey is the biggest invisible threat for India. Erdogan or any of his acquaintances shouldn’t be trusted,” said Singhvi.

Laal Singh Chaddha is being directed by Advait Chandan. The film is loosely based on Hollywood classic Forrest Gump. Kareena Kapoor is playing the role of lady lead in this film, while Kollywood star Vijay Sethupathi is making his Bollywood debut through this flick.

Laal Singh Chaddha was originally scheduled to have its theatrical release in December 2020. However, due to the coronavirus outbreak, the makers have postponed the release of this film to Christmas 2021.

UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash asked Turkey to stop interfering in Arab affairs, and made a reference to the Ottoman Empire which collapsed a century ago. He said that Turkey cannot behave like “the Sublime Porte and use the language of colonialism”. Sublime Porte is a French term to describe the government of the Ottoman Empire which ruled the Arab world for centuries.

The UAE backlash came on August 1 after Turkey spoke of “malicious” actions by the UAE in Libya, where the two countries support opposing sides in its grinding conflict.

“The Sublime Porte and colonialist illusions belong to the archives of history… and relations between states are not conducted with threats,” Gargash wrote.

Earlier, Turkey’s Defence Minister Hulusi Akar had commented in an interview with Qatar’s Al Jazeera that “Abu Dhabi does what it does in Libya, does what it does in Syria. All of it is being recorded. At the right place and time, the accounts will be settled.” Qatar and Turkey are close allies, and Al Jazeera adopts a pro-Turkish line.

In late June Dr. Gargash had participated in an emergency ministerial meeting of the Council of the Arab League to discuss developments related to Libya and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

During the virtual meeting, the ministers had discussed events taking place in Libya and threats to Arab national security, as well as Egypt’s concerns over foreign interference by regional powers and the deployment of mercenaries from northern Syria in Libya. They also discussed proposals for a peaceful settlement, with the latest being the Cairo Initiative.

According to Wam, Gargash had then highlighted the UAE’s keenness to unify Libya and the role of Arab countries in achieving a political solution, stressing the importance of an immediate ceasefire, which will pave the way for a comprehensive political solution and the return of security and stability in Libya. He had also noted that it will end the bloodshed, de-escalate the region, and counter Turkey’s interventions that threaten Arab national security, particularly Egypt’s security.

Gargash had then reiterated the UAE’s position on the Libyan crisis is supported by the international community and will lead to a political solution based on United Nations resolutions and the outcomes of the Berlin Conference. He also called on all Libyan parties to immediately respond to Egypt’s ceasefire initiative, re-build their institutions, restore law and order to combat terrorism, and confront foreign interference.

Turkey’s top administrative court has ruled the 1934 conversion of Hagia Sophia into a museum was illegal, paving the way for the monument to be reopened for prayers.

The case was brought by a Turkish NGO seeking an annulment of the decision to convert Hagia Sophia into a museum after being a mosque for nearly 500 years, a move backed by Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Shortly after the ruling, Erdogan signed a decree opening Hagia Sophia for prayers.

Built 1,500 years ago as an Orthodox Christian cathedral, Hagia Sophia was converted into a mosque after the Ottoman conquest in 1453. In 1934 it became a museum and is now a Unesco World Heritage site.

Islamists in Turkey long called for it to be converted to a mosque but secular opposition members opposed the move. The proposal prompted criticism from religious and political leaders worldwide.

Defending the decision, the President stressed that the country had exercised its sovereign right in converting it back to a mosque.

He told a press conference the first Muslim prayers would be held inside the building on July 24.

“Like all our mosques, the doors of Hagia Sophia will be wide open to locals and foreigners, Muslims and non-Muslims,” he added.

Making changes at Hagia Sophia is profoundly symbolic. It was Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey, who decreed that it should be a museum. President Erdogan is now taking one more step to dismantle Ataturk’s secular legacy, and remould Turkey according to his vision. The Turkish leader – who presents himself as a modern day conqueror – is making no apologies for the change. He says anyone who doesn’t like it – and plenty abroad don’t – is attacking Turkey’s sovereignty.

Unesco has said it “deeply regrets” the decision to turn the museum into a mosque and called on the Turkish authorities to “open a dialogue without delay.” The organisation had urged Turkey not to change its status without discussion.
