The Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA), in cooperation with the Local Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Team in Sharjah, has announced that it will resume in-school or face-to-face attendance for all students in the academic year 2021-2022 starting in September.

SPEA noted that the decision was made after measures were taken to provide a healthy and safe environment for all participants, including the vaccination of most school staff.

SPEA said it has studied how to enable schools to receive students after applying necessary precautionary measures.

SPEA also carried out more than 2,000 monitoring visits since last September, launched an electronic platform to monitor infections in schools, and formed a committee to follow up on all infections. It trained school administrators on guidelines for reopening schools and receiving students. It also held workshops and training courses for schools regarding the distance learning system. Public awareness campaigns about the pandemic were launched through the Sharjah Education Academy.

SPEA also organised numerous courses and a health awareness campaign that receivved the participation of over 23,000 people.

Dr Muhadditha Al Hashimi, Chairperson of SPEA, said the pandemic strengthened the bonds of cooperation and unleashed qualitative ideas and initiatives, which contributed to the success of the education system that SPEA adopted. These efforts reinforced the need to return to the face-to-face education system.

H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council and son of the Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, attended the inauguration of the Chinese School Dubai, the first Chinese public school to be established outside China. With the addition of CSD, the number of curricula offered by Dubai’s private school sector goes up to 18.

Welcoming the school’s opening, the Dubai royal said it further strengthens the UAE’s strong cultural ties with China and the deep bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The Dubai Government is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students, teachers and staff of all private schools in Dubai amidst the prevailing circumstances, Sheikh Mansour said.

He also praised the efforts of all government organisations and private schools that collaborated to develop protocols for ensuring the safety of students in accordance with the internationally benchmarked precautionary measures approved by the Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management in Dubai.

Sheikh Mansour unveiled a commemorative plaque at the inauguration event and toured the school premises. It is located in Mirdif, and will serve up to 2,000 students. While focussing on the Chinese community in the emirate, the school will also accept students of other nationalities living in Dubai. There are about 200,000 Chinese nationals living in Dubai.

Sheikh Mansour reviewed the teaching methodologies of the school. In addition to the Chinese national curriculum, students will study Arabic, Islamic studies and moral education. School officials and teachers were directly recruited by the Hangzhou Education Bureau. It will follow the model of Hangzhou No. 2 High School, an internationally renowned school based in Hangzhou, the capital of China’s Zhejiang province.

Dr. Abdulla Al Karam, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director-General of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) said the school “not only facilitates quality education for students but also serves the broader community”. “We are proud that Dubai has been chosen as the location for the first public Chinese school outside China. The school will provide a window into Chinese culture and civilization,” he added.

The inauguration was attended by Ni Jian, the Chinese Ambassador to the UAE; Li Xuhang, Chinese Consul General in Dubai; and Yin Liping, Principal of the Chinese School Dubai.
