OUR CORRESPONDENT

The Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, has updated the home quarantine guidelines for arriving travellers and those in contact with a positive case, to protect the health and safety of all.

Those vaccinated must quarantine for seven days and take a PCR test on day 6. If the PCR test result is negative, they can remove the wristband on day 7. Those in quarantine in the emirate are provided with a medically approved wristband for the duration of quarantine, after clearing immigration at airport.

Those who are not vaccinated must quarantine for 12 days and take a PCR test on day 11. If the PCR test result is negative, they can remove the wristband on day 12.

Vaccinated as well as unvaccinated passengers coming from green countries do not need to quarantine themselves. However, the former will need to do an RT-PCR test on arrival and on Day 6, and the latter on days 6 and 12 from arrival. Vaccinated people coming from other countries must quarantine themselves for 5 days. Additionally, they will need to do an RT-PCR test on arrival and on day 4 from arrival. This will be 10 days quarantine and test on arrival and day 8 for the unvaccinated.

The above rules apply to those who received their second dose of the vaccine at least 28 days prior to the day of travel. Information about the vaccine must be documented on the Al Hosn app.

Green countries presently are Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bhutan, Brunei, China, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greenland, Hong Kong (SAR), Iceland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Malta, Mauritius, Moldova, Morocco, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United States of America and Uzbekistan. This is the updated list from June 24 onwards.

There are travel corridors with Bahrain, Greece, Serbia and Seychelles for fully vaccinated UAE passengers.

Those in contact and registered in the home quarantine programme can conduct a free walk-in PCR test and remove the wristband at COVID-19 Prime Assessment Centres at Zayed Port, Mafraq Hospital and ADNEC (Abu Dhabi City), Al Ain Convention Centre, Al Khubiaisi, and Madinat Zayed in Al Dhafra, as well as all SEHA hospitals in Al Dhafra.

Those violating home quarantine will be slapped a fine of AED 50,000.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has suspended flights from UAE owing to the detection of virus variant in the latter country. Etihad and Emirates, the national carriers, suspended flights as a result with effect from July 4.

Netflix on January 8 dropped a trailer for the romantic drama ‘Malcolm & Marie’. Starring Zendaya (Euphoria) and John David Washington (BlackKklansman, Tenet), the black-and-white film follows how a director’s relationship with his girlfriend is tested when they return home from a movie premiere and await responses from critics.

“You are by far the most excruciating, difficult, stubbornly obnoxious woman I’ve ever met in my entire life,” Washington’s character Malcolm declares in the trailer. “I fucking love you.” Later on, Malcolm tells her, “I love the way you see the world, Marie.”

As the two-and-a-half-minute trailer progresses, Marie comes to the conclusion, “You know what, Malcolm? I feel like once you know someone’s there for you and once you know they love you, you never actually think of them again. It’s not until you’re about to lose someone that you finally pay attention.”

The film follows a director’s relationship with his girlfriend was tested when they return home from a movie premiere and await responses from critics. According to the trailer, this is not a love story, this is a story of love.

Sam Levinson who directed the critically acclaimed series Euphoria helmed the project as writer and director.

Netflix acquired the film, which was shot on 35 mm with a small crew amid the COVID-19 pandemic, last September for $30 million following a bidding war between several distributors. The streamer plans to launch an Oscar campaign for the project.

Malcolm & Marie will be available on Netflix on Feb. 5. View the trailer below.

World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on November 1 (Sunday) that he was self-quarantining after someone he had been in contact with tested positive for coronavirus. Tedros Adhanom, however, stressed that he had no symptoms of the Covid-19 infection.

In a tweet on November 1 (Sunday), Tedros Adhanom said that he has been identified as a contact of someone who has tested positive for coronavirus and that he was under self-quarantine.

“I have been identified as a contact of someone who has tested positive for #COVID19. I am well and without symptoms but will self-quarantine over the coming days, in line with @WHO protocols, and work from home,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a tweet.

I have been identified as a contact of someone who has tested positive for #COVID19.

Tedros has been at the forefront of the United Nations health agency’s efforts to battle the pandemic since it was reported in China.

“My @WHO colleagues and I will continue to engage with partners in solidarity to save lives and protect the vulnerable. Together!” Tedros tweeted.

The WHO chief stressed on Twitter that “it is critically important that we all comply with health guidance”. “This is how we will break chains of #COVID19 transmission, suppress the virus, and protect health systems,” he said.

The 55-year-old former Ethiopian minister of health and foreign affairs has for months reiterated that each person has a role to play in halting the spread of the virus.

The WHO urges all individuals to be careful about hand-washing, wearing masks and keeping a distance, while it calls on authorities at various levels to work to find, isolate, test and care for cases, then trace and quarantine their contacts.

Trump confirmed in an interview with Fox News that Hope Hicks, one of his closest confidantes, had tested positive and added later on Twitter that he and First Lady Melania Trump had got tested too.

Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 2, 2020

Mr Hicks was traveling with Trump on Air Force One on September 29 to fly to Cleveland for the first Presidential debate with Democrat Joe Biden.

With only 32 days left for the US Presidential elections to kick off, two more presidential debates with Joe Biden are scheduled in the coming weeks apart from the campaigns.

Trump had consistently played down concerns about being personally vulnerable to contracting COVID-19. “I felt no vulnerablity whatsoever,” he told reporters back in May. The virus has killed more than 2,00,000 Americans and infected more than seven million worldwide.

Kerala has made it compulsory for non-resident Indians returning to the state to register in the COVID-19 Jagrata portal. This is in the light of the increasing number of passengers to the State, and will help to make checkout and surveillance during mandatory quarantine easier.
After booking tickets to return home, all passengers are required to register under the International Returnees window under Public Services. This is compulsory for both Vande Bharat Mission and chartered flight passengers.
The site can be reached at https://covid19jagratha.kerala.nic.in Email or Mobile number in India can be used for registration.
Tickets sold out
Meanwhile, Khaleej Times reported that the direct sales tickets have been sold out to all Phase 4 VBM destinations in India – Lucknow, Delhi, Hyderabad and Kerala – within hours after the sale began. The Indian Embassy had notified on June 28 that its permission was not necessary to travel to India and those seeking to return could book directly on Air India.

A 39 year old man, who died on Thursday under home quarantine, was confirmed negative for COVID-19. His body samples had been collected for medical examination. The deceased is Manjunath of Kanakkary, about 15km from Kottayam town. He had returned from Dubai on June 21 and was staying alone adhering to quarantine norms. Manjunath was found unconscious by his brother early on Thursday.

He was admitted to the Kottayam Medical College Hospital by evening and moved to the intensive care unit by night, but could not be saved. His relatives alleged that there had been a delay of several hours in taking him to the hospital. Manjunath brother had gone to the house around 10 pm on Thursday with food. However, he grew suspicious after he noted that the food from the previous day had not been taken. He then found Manjunath unconscious inside the home.

Manjunath is survived by wife Gayathri, and children Shivani and Suryakiran.
