It was on September 14 that seven Indian nationals haling from the states of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh were kidnapped in Libya. And now, after nearly one month, the Indian ambassador to Tunisia has revealed that all these seven people were released.

It was the Indian ambassador to Tunisia who coordinated the efforts to assure the release of these kidnapped people. It should be noted that India does not have an embassy in Libya, and the Indian mission in Tunisia is looking after the welfare of Indians who work in the country.

The seven kidnapped people were working at an oil field supplies company in Libya. They were kidnapped from Asshwerif on September 14, as they were traveling to the Tripoli airport to catch their flight to India.

Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs had revealed that all the seven kidnapped Indian nationals were safe, and the Indian embassy in Tunisia has talked to the Libyan government to ensure the safety of the kidnapped people.

“Our Embassy in Tunisia, which handles matters relating to the welfare of Indian nationals in Libya, has reached out to the Libyan government authorities concerned, as also the international organisations present there, to seek their help in rescuing the Indian nationals. The employer has been contacted by the kidnappers and shown photographs as proof that the Indian nationals were safe and keeping well,” said an MEA spokesman.
