Whoever gazed at her would turn into stone. A famous sculpture ‘Perseus with the head of Medusa’, even celebrated her beheading at the hands of Perseus, son of Zeus.

However, in an attempt to change the narrative around how we perceive victims of sexual assault, a New York artist will install a 7-foot statue of Medusa holding Perseus’ head as a symbol of honouring MeToo movement and the women who took a stand.

It will even be placed at the NY County Criminal Court in Manhattan where the Harvey Weinstein trial took place. The once powerful mogul was convicted on February 24,2020 of raping an aspiring actress and sexually abusing a TV and film production assistant.

The verdict was celebrated by his dozens of accusers and the supporters as a watershed moment for the #MeToo movement.

“The place chosen is not accidental, since there they judge cases for crimes related to violence against women,” Sculptor Luciano Garbati said on Instagram. He is an Argentine- Italian artist based Buenos Aires.

The 1000-pound bronze sculpture gives Medusa a different ending, depicting her as empowered. The statue was created in 2008. When the #MeToo movement started it took a different meaning.

Back in 2008, the sculpture grabbed the attention, as the sculpture is the perfect avatar for a moment of female rage.

After the questioning, Priyanka Khimani, Anurag Kashyap’s lawyer issued a statement and stated that the complaint lodged by Payal Ghosh was an outright lie.

“Mr. Kashyap is confident that the falsity of the complaint has been exposed, not only by the evidence presented by Mr. Kashyap, but also the ever-shifting version of events put forth by Ms. Ghosh in the media. Mr. Kashyap is apprehensive that now that the falsity of her allegations in the FIR have been established, she will alter her version of events in the investigative process as well,” said Khimani in the statement.

The statement also added that Anurag Kashyap is seriously considering taking legal actions against Payal Ghosh, as she tried to misuse the criminal justice system in India.

“Mr. Kashyap intends to vigorously pursue the legal remedies available to him. Mr. Kashyap vehemently denies any such incident, as has been alleged, and has sought for severe action against Ms. Ghosh for misusing the criminal justice system and for hijacking the Me Too Movement for her ulterior motives. Mr. Kashyap is confident that justice will prevail,” added the statement.

Even though netizens are talking in favor of Payal Ghosh, the entire film fraternity has lined up behind Kashyap. Many celebrities have openly come forward and have made it clear that Kashyap is such a person who is known for his respect towards womanhood.

It was in 2018 that the Me Too movement that originated from Hollywood reached India when Tanushree Dutta revealed the bitter experiences she faced from Nana Patekar. Soon, Me Too movement gained popularity in all regional film industries in India, and several top actors and filmmakers were accused of exploiting female co-stars with whom they work with.

And now, after two years of the movement, Indian model Dimple Paul, popularly known as Paula has shared the painful experiences she faced from filmmaker Sajid Khan. Paula alleged that Sajid Khan is a sexual predator who targeted her when she was just 17 years old.

According to Paula, Sajid Khan molested her during the audition of Housefull. She alleged that the filmmaker had asked her to strip in front of him to get a role in the movie. “Before democracy dies and there is no freedom of speech anymore I thought I should speak!” said Paula.

Paula’s revelations have already gone viral on social media platforms, and #ArrestSajidKhan has started to trend on Twitter. Most of the netizens allege that people like Sajid Khan who is the brother of Farah Khan has strong connections in the police department, and that is why he is roaming freely even after committing all sorts of sexual perversion.

This is not the first time that an actress is complaining about Sajid Khan’s sexual acts. A few months back, Ahaana Khumra alleged that Sajid had asked her inappropriate questions when they met for some work.
