This is a much-needed relief for students who were anxious because of the uncertainties about their academic activities, amid COVID-19. The Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE) has cut down the syllabus of Classes between 9 and 12 by up to 30 percent. Human Resources Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank announced in a tweet on July 7.

The move was made looking at the extraordinary situation prevailing in the country due to COVID-19 pandemic. The CBSE- country’s largest education board- said in a statement that the prevailing health emergency as well as the spread of COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the loss of classroom teaching due to closure of schools. Therefore the board decided to revise the syllabus.

Looking at the extraordinary situation prevailing in the country and the world, #CBSE was advised to revise the curriculum and reduce course load for the students of Class 9th to 12th. @PMOIndia @HMOIndia @PIB_India @MIB_India @DDNewslive @cbseindia29 @mygovindia

The students were grappling with online classes amidst the nationwide lockdown since March 25. The fear was that especially for students giving their CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations in 2021, the academic portion would not be completed on time.

In June, the Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had pitched for a 30 percent reduction in the syllabus for all grades to make up for the loss caused by the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic.
