The Nifty was up 32 points and the Sensex was up 7 points. The Nifty closed at 14,707 and the Sensex at 49,751. The stock market closed higher for the fifth day in a row. The Nifty traded above the support level of 14,650 points today.
Nifty, which had touched a low of 14,652 points at one point, rose to 14,854 points. At the close, the Nifty gained only 32 points.
All sectors except banks and pharma registered gains. Similarly, Nifty rose by 3.04 per cent. The Bank Nifty rose above 35,600 in the morning but later declined by about 500 points.
Public sector stocks in the oil sector were the top gainers today. Shares of ONGC, GAIL and oil trading companies also gained. 756 shares of the NSE lost while 1,142 shares gained.
