South Al Sharqiyah Unveils Major Projects in Housing, Tourism, and Infrastructure

Muscat : The Municipal Council of South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, chaired by H.E. Dr. Yahya bin Badr Al Maawali, Governor and Chairman of the Council, convened to review and advance a number of strategic development initiatives across the housing, tourism, and infrastructure sectors.

The session began with discussions on the Digital Transformation Team’s efforts and insights from the recent “Housing Visions” hackathon, which focused on innovative approaches to address the region’s housing needs. The council also examined the General Directorate of Housing and Urban Planning’s initiatives, especially those supporting low-income families.

Tourism development was another key highlight, with proposals to host events across the governorate’s wilayats and enhance major tourist attractions. Projects in the pipeline include the creation of Saih Al Sandah Park in Jalan Bani Bu Ali, the development of a falaj-themed walkway in Al Kamil and Al Wafi, upgrades to the Qurun waterfront in Jalan Bani Bu Hassan, and infrastructure enhancements at Masirah Port.

Urban infrastructure improvements were also prioritized. The council discussed plans to rehabilitate the access road to Masirah State Hospital, improve street signage, add pedestrian crossings, pave roads leading to Ashkhara Industrial Area, and construct a modern fish market in Sur aligned with health and environmental standards.

A key milestone during the meeting was the unveiling of the visual identity for the Jalan Bani Bu Ali General Endowment Foundation. The initiative seeks to reinforce institutional governance, optimize asset management, and encourage innovation in the endowment sector, further supporting the region’s sustainable development goals.
