Soon after permanently banning Trump, Twitter suspends his team’s account

Twitter has permanently banned President Trump, citing the risk that he would incite further violence. It also suspended the account of his presidential campaign.

The social media platform also deleted new tweets Trump posted on official government account @POTUS. Donald Trump said that he and his support base would not be silenced.

Donald Trump, in a statement hours after he was permanently banned from Twitter, said, “I predicted this would happen. We have been negotiating with various other sites, and will have a big announcement soon, while we also look at the possibilities of building out our own platform in the near future.”

“We will not be SILENCED!” Donald Trump said. The US President also went on to accuse Twitter of silencing him.

The social platform had long been under pressure to take action against Donald Trump following Wednesday’s deadly siege at the US Capitol.

On January 6, Twitter had temporarily blocked Donald Trump’s account, which had more than 88 million followers, following the siege of Capitol Hill by pro-Trump protesters and had warned that additional violations by the president’s accounts would result in a permanent suspension.
