Sharjah Police Intensify Summer Road Safety Inspections

Sharjah : With temperatures soaring across the UAE, Sharjah Police have ramped up their summer road safety campaign, urging drivers to prioritize vehicle maintenance to prevent accidents caused by heat-related issues.

The General Command of Sharjah Police emphasized the importance of regular vehicle inspections, particularly during the summer months when extreme heat can escalate minor technical faults into serious hazards. A key focus of the campaign is on tyre safety, as tyres are especially vulnerable to the region’s harsh summer conditions.

Summer heat puts additional stress on vehicles,” said Colonel Mohammed Abdullah Alay, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department. “We are urging drivers to check tyre pressure and condition regularly. A neglected tyre can quickly become a lethal risk.”

To enforce and educate, traffic patrols have launched random roadside inspections, especially targeting heavy vehicles. These checks are not just regulatory but also educational, with officers providing on-the-spot advice on safe vehicle maintenance practices.

“It’s not about issuing fines,” Colonel Alay added. “Our priority is public safety — from families heading out for a weekend drive to truck drivers on long-distance routes.”

Colonel Khalid Mohammed Al Kay, Director of the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department, echoed the message, noting that preventive maintenance, particularly of tyres, plays a critical role in reducing breakdowns and serious accidents. “We’ve introduced a range of proactive measures to raise awareness,” he said. “A simple tyre check can save lives.”

Beyond enforcement, Sharjah Police are leveraging social media, public service campaigns, and community outreach to instill a culture of responsibility among road users.

Road safety starts with the driver,” Colonel Alay emphasized. “When motorists take responsibility for their vehicles, the roads become safer for everyone.”

As the summer heat intensifies, the Sharjah Police’s message is both timely and crucial: a well-maintained vehicle isn’t just more reliable — it’s a safeguard for lives on the road.
