RCB beat RR by eight wickets

Our Correspondent

Devdutt Padikkal and Yuzvendra Chahal were in excellent form once again as they helped Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Rajasthan Royals by eight wickets to head the Indian Premier League with 6 points.

Player of the match Chahal took 3-24 to restrict the Royals to 154-6 after RR captain Steve Smith won the toss and opted to bat first in Abu Dhabi on October 3.

After the early dismissal of Smith, Mahipal Lomror (47) and Rahul Tewatia (24 not out) helped RR post over 150. Isuru Udana claimed 2-41 for RCB.

Padikkal and Kohli gave a second-wicket stand of 99 to clinch the match for RCB. The 20-year-old Keralite opener Padikkal (63 off 45 balls, 6 fours and one six) made his third half-century in the tournament while captain Kohli registered his first even as he remained unbeaten on 72 from 53 deliveries (seven 4s, and two sixes).

Padikkal has been a revelation for RCB at the top of the order and is now the fourth-highest run scorer in the tournament.

The Royals are now sixth in the table with two wins and two losses.
