Pakistan finally gives in; BSF jawan held by Pakistan army released

New Delhi: BSF jawan Poornam Kumar Shah, who was held by Pakistan, has been released. Pakistan handed over the BSF jawan to India via the Attari border. Pakistan agreed to hand over the jawan following diplomatic pressure from India. The jawan was taken into custody by Pakistan Rangers on the suspicion of crossing the border.
Poornam Kumar, who is in the custody of the Pakistani army, is a native of Hooghly in West Bengal. Poornam, who had come to monitor farmers in the no-man’s land between India and Pakistan, accidentally crossed the border. The constable of the 182nd BSF battalion was arrested while on duty near a farm near the India-Pakistan border.

Poorna’s pregnant wife had been talking to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the release of her husband, who was captured by the Pakistani army. The West Bengal Chief Minister called Mamata and conveyed her demand when the jawan was not released even after 15 days of being taken into custody. Later, Mamata also assured Rajini about the release of Poorna.
