Oman’s TRA secures over RO 138,000 in refunds for telecom consumers in 2024

MUSCAT : This figure represents a significant 43.4 percent increase compared to the refunds obtained in 2023, demonstrating the TRA’s commitment to protecting consumer interests.

The refunds were distributed among major telecommunications and postal service providers, with Omantel leading the way with RO 72,683.4, followed by Awasr at RO 41,471.1, Ooredoo at RO 12,756.9, and Vodafone at RO 12,024.2. These refunds were part of the TRA’s ongoing efforts to ensure that the interests of telecommunications and postal service users are protected.

The TRA report also provided insights into the responsiveness of service providers to beneficiary complaints. Omani Qatari Telecommunications Company (Ooredoo) emerged as the fastest responder to complaints, handling 787 cases and resolving 84 percent efficiently. Omantel responded to 2,043 complaints, resolving 72 percent of them, followed by Vodafone which handled 483 complaints (58 percent resolution), and Awasr which dealt with 391 complaints (52 percent resolution).

The TRA emphasized its dedication to promoting transparency and improving the beneficiary experience, ensuring consumer satisfaction within the telecommunications sector.
