Oman’s Shinas Port records strong growth, handles over RO 11.5 million in goods in 2024

Muscat : Port’s performance highlights its growing role in boosting the national economy and facilitating regional and international trade.

Khater bin Ali Al Maamari, Executive Director of Shinas Port, revealed that the port handled 707 ships in 2024, marking an impressive 41 percent increase compared to 2023. The port also saw the handling of over 100,000 tons of goods with a total value exceeding RO 11.5 million, covering both imports and exports.

In terms of imports, Shinas Port received approximately 91,343 tons of goods. This included key items such as building and construction materials (21,665.98 tons), food items (4,083.07 tons), and general goods (4,273.68 tons). Additionally, the port facilitated the import of livestock and camels, receiving 15,815 heads, equivalent to 469 tons.

On the export side, the port saw the shipment of 11,676.12 tons of goods. This included 461 tons of building materials, 33 tons of food items, and 8,643 tons of general goods. Notably, livestock and camel exports were the most significant, with 70,761 heads weighing a total of 2,133 tons being exported.
Al Maamari attributed the exceptional performance of Shinas Port to substantial improvements in infrastructure and services, which have reinforced the port’s position as one of the Sultanate’s most important maritime hubs. The growth in the size of ships and the volume of goods processed at the port is expected to continue supporting the diverse economic sectors and facilitating smoother regional and international trade.

As the port plays an increasingly vital role in enhancing Oman’s trade connectivity, it is poised to contribute significantly to the country’s broader economic objectives in the coming years.
