Oman’s Minister highlights progress in education, tech, and global women’s rights at CSW69

New York: The session focuses on reviewing the progress of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a landmark global framework for gender equality.

Leading Oman’s delegation, Her Excellency Dr. Laila Ahmed Al Najjar, Minister of Social Development, underscored the country’s commitment to women’s empowerment in education, technology, and economic sectors.
During a side event titled “Women and Technology: Inspiring Stories in the GCC Countries”, Her Excellency delivered Oman’s speech, emphasizing the country’s investment in digital infrastructure within educational and vocational institutions.
She highlighted an increase in female enrollment in science and technology fields for the 2024/2025 academic year, as well as efforts to align academic specializations with labor market demands. The Minister stressed that Oman is fostering an innovation-friendly environment for women, allowing them to achieve regional and international success in scientific and technological fields.
As part of CSW69’s high-level interactive dialogue, Her Excellency also presented Oman’s position on the “Muscat Declaration on Progress in Implementing the Beijing Declaration in the Arab Region.” She reaffirmed that the Beijing framework provides strategic pathways for advancing women’s rights, ensuring legal protections, empowerment, and equal opportunities.

In her speech, Her Excellency strongly condemned Israel’s continued aggression against the occupied Palestinian territories, calling it a clear violation of international law. She denounced war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide, urging the global community to respect international resolutions and the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion on Palestine.

Additionally, the Minister condemned violence against civilians in Sudan, particularly the targeting of women and girls, who face serious human rights abuses during the ongoing conflict. She stressed that regional crises, forced displacement, and deprivation of basic services disproportionately affect women, making global action essential.
