Oman’s classrooms go smart: Over 1,730 interactive boards rolled out in landmark digital drive

Muscat: Central to these efforts is the integration of digital tools such as smart boards, AI-powered platforms, and high-speed internet services to modernize classroom delivery.

As part of this ambitious transformation, over 1,730 interactive whiteboards are being installed in government schools across various governorates. These boards serve not only as display screens and digital writing surfaces but also as remote teaching tools that allow access to cloud-based resources, multimedia content, and AI-supported handwriting recognition — ensuring a dynamic, inclusive, and personalized learning experience for students.

Additionally, more than 900 schools will benefit from high-speed internet of up to 1 gigabit, enabled by fiber optic and 5G technology. This backbone infrastructure is vital to support remote learning, interactive educational platforms, and cloud-based systems in real time.
Dr. Faisal bin Ali Al Busaidi, Director General of the Ministry’s Directorate General of Information Technology, emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to a digitally transformed education system. He added that the partnership with Omantel is part of the Ministry’s keenness to involve a number of institutions and companies within the Sultanate of Oman in achieving its digital vision.

Through these projects, the Ministry focuses on empowering teachers and creating a lasting impact by providing ongoing training and support. This enables teachers across Oman to integrate digital tools into the daily learning process, radically changing the way education is delivered. These smart classrooms contribute to promoting digital inclusion, reducing reliance on traditional materials and mobility, expanding access to educational services, and building a knowledge-based, future-ready society.
