Oman to host its first ICAO 2024 Security Week and High-Level Ministerial Segment

MUSCAT : For the first time, the Sultanate of Oman is set to host the prestigious ICAO 2024 Security Week and High-Level Ministerial Segment, marking a significant milestone for the country and the global civil aviation community. The event, organized in collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), will take place at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre from December 9-12, 2024.

This international gathering signals Oman’s growing role in enhancing global aviation security as the air transport sector recovers from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The conference will bring together aviation ministers, experts, and officials from across the globe to discuss pressing security challenges, exchange best practices, and explore new solutions for securing air travel in a rapidly evolving world.

With participation from aviation leaders and experts, the event will focus on critical issues like counter-terrorism, protecting infrastructure, and improving cybersecurity in aviation. The discussions will be pivotal in shaping policies aimed at balancing security needs with the sustainability goals of the aviation industry.
Key objectives of the event include addressing the global security challenges facing aviation, especially in light of emerging threats. Strengthening international coordination to protect critical infrastructure and enhance passenger safety.
Promoting a unified approach among member states to overcome future challenges in aviation security.

A highlight of the event will be the High-Level Ministerial Segment on December 11, 2024, which will focus on setting global aviation priorities ahead of the 42nd ICAO Assembly in 2025. This platform will provide a forum for strategic discussions and will feature the launch of the second edition of the Global Aviation Security Plan, alongside an endorsement of a ministerial declaration on cybersecurity and aviation security.

For the younger generation, specialized youth sessions will be held to discuss the evolving challenges and advancements in civil aviation security.

The conference will also explore cutting-edge issues like unmanned aircraft systems and the future of aviation cybersecurity. Side exhibitions showcasing Oman’s rich heritage and culture will offer participants a glimpse into the country’s history, while tourist excursions will allow attendees to explore its scenic attractions.

The event is open for registration through the International Civil Aviation Organization’s official website. High-ranking aviation ministers, CEOs, security officials, and aviation experts will be among the attendees.
