Oman participates in 28th session of Commission on Science, Technology for Development

MUSCAT : The current session focuses on diversifying economies in a world of accelerated digitalization, exploring technology foresight and assessing gains to sustainable development.

In its speech at the meeting, the Sultanate of Oman affirmed that Oman Vision 2040 capitalizes on education, learning, research and national capabilities. It pointed out that the prime objective of the vision is to develop competitive national capabilities that lead to a knowledge-based society.

The speech explained that Oman Vision 2040 includes various indicators based on knowledge economy, skills development, global innovation, investment in human capital, modern technology, digital transformation and the advancement of Omani higher education institutions.

The speech underscored the attention accorded to education, research, innovation and community service by the government of the Sultanate of Oman, under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. It added that this objective is being achieved by devising policies and enforcing legal frameworks to develop the sector of education and build sustainable capacities for research and innovation at educational institutions—a step forward towards the realization of a knowledge-based economy.
