Oman invests over RO 300 million in 2024 for major road projects

Muscat: Eng. Yousef bin Abdullah Al-Majini, Director General of Roads and Land Transport, highlighted the ministry’s five-year plan to establish a network of high-quality expressways, connecting governorates and bolstering tourism, logistics, and economic diversification.

In collaboration with the Tender Board, several road projects across Oman were awarded in 2024, amounting to over RO 300 million. Among these, three packages of the dual carriageway for the Sultan Said bin Taimur Road (Adam – Thumrait) were awarded to contractors and are set to commence in Q1 2025. The project includes essential safety measures such as iron barriers and box culverts.

The ministry is also advancing works on the Sultan Taimur bin Faisal Road (Al Batinah Coastal), with construction reaching 4% completion, and on the Sultan Faisal bin Turki Road (Dibba – Lima – Khasab), a key project in Musandam Governorate now 27% complete. Service roads have been opened to ensure smooth progress, supporting tourism and trade in the region.
Progress on the Sultan Turki bin Said Road (Eastern Expressway) has hit 20%, with a new 4-kilometer stretch already open to traffic. Meanwhile, plans for the Wadi Bani Khalid road are underway, with designs expected to finalize within six months.

Additionally, the connection between Sultan Qaboos bin Said Road and Al Batinah Expressway is nearing completion at 90%, with full completion anticipated by late 2025.

With 16,000 km of paved roads already in place and an additional 17,000 km in progress, the ministry is prioritizing efficiency and safety in its road rehabilitation and development efforts.
