Muhammad Yunus to return from Paris tomorrow, will lead interim govt
Bangladesh : A day after former Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country, Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been appointed head of the interim government. According to the protesting leaders, they expect members of an interim government led by Yunus to be finalised on Wednesday. The appointment of Yunus came after a meeting held on late Tuesday that included student protest leaders, military chiefs, civil society members and business leaders.
Hasina, who had ruled the country since 2009, resigned on Monday and landed at the Hindon Air Base in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad on a C-130 transport aircraft – where she is living at a safe house. Media reports suggest that she is likely to go to London, where she may seek political asylum.

– The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President, AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, has urged India to arrest Sheikh Hasina and her sister, Sheikh Rehana, and return them to Bangladesh.
– As the protests continued across the country, over 20 bodies of Hasina’s party members have been found, reported The Dhaka Tribune.
– Amid political unrest in Bangladesh, an Air India flight from Dhaka carrying 199 passengers and six infants landed in Delhi early on Wednesday morning.
– On Tuesday, Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin dissolved parliament, paving the way for the formation of an interim government. The president also freed Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, a former prime minister and Hasina’s arch-rival, from house arrest.
– Thousands of protesters who stormed Hasina’s residence after her resignation, vandalised her mural in Dhaka. They also stormed the Bangladesh Consulate in New York to remove the Hasina’s father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s portrait.
– Nepali security agencies have heightened vigilance across the border and at the Bangladesh Embassy in Kathmandu following political changes in Dhaka. The security agencies are on high alert to prevent unauthorized entry from Bangladesh via India, as people may seek refuge, reported ANI.
– The United States has expressed deep concerns about the continued violence in Bangladesh, including attacks on members of religious or political groups, and said it will be vital for the new government to credibly investigate all such instances and provide justice to victims.
