Kuwait to Accept Applications from Foreign Wives of Stateless Citizens in Bid to Address Legal Ambiguities

Dubai: Kuwait Agency to Accept Applications from Foreign Wives of Stateless Citizens. The Central Agency for Remedying Illegal Residents’ Status in Kuwait — the government body overseeing matters related to stateless individuals, commonly known as the Bidoon — has announced a new policy allowing foreign wives of certain Kuwaiti citizens to apply for official recognition.

According to an official statement, the move covers two categories:

  • Foreign women married to Kuwaiti men who were never granted citizenship
  • Foreign wives who previously held Kuwaiti nationality but had it revoked and currently reside in the country without legal status

Though the agency has not yet disclosed specific eligibility requirements, documentation procedures, or the implications of the policy, the announcement marks a cautious step towards addressing the legal uncertainty faced by families connected to stateless Kuwaiti citizens.

This initiative is seen as part of a broader government effort to resolve long-standing residency and documentation challenges affecting the Bidoon population and others living in legally vulnerable conditions.

The issue of stateless individuals in Kuwait has attracted growing attention from human rights groups and international organizations in recent years. However, as of now, no further clarifications have been issued by the agency regarding the next steps.
