Kuwait opens e-visa doors wider for GCC expats with new rules and faster entry

KUWAIT: Kuwait has clarified and broadened the scope of its electronic visa (e-visa) system, now allowing more qualified expats in GCC nations to apply online for entry. The move is part of the country’s effort to modernise its visa processes while ensuring security and compliance with immigration standards.

To be eligible, applicants must hold a valid GCC residency exceeding six months, have a passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry, and work in approved professional categories. These include doctors, engineers, lawyers, teachers, journalists, and business managers. A clean legal record is also mandatory.

However, the e-visa is not available to citizens of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, and Yemen. Nationals from these countries must apply directly at a Kuwaiti embassy or consulate in their country of residence.
The e-visa process is fully online and usually processed within one to three business days. Applicants are required to upload their passport biodata page, GCC residency proof, return ticket, recent photograph, accommodation details, and professional credentials. Once approved, the e-visa is sent via email and must be printed for presentation upon arrival.

Each e-visa remains valid for 90 days from issuance and allows a stay of up to 90 days from the date of entry.

In addition, citizens from 53 countries—including the US, UK, Germany, and France—remain eligible for visa on arrival at Kuwait International Airport, provided they carry a valid passport (minimum six months), a return ticket, and have registered accommodation.
