Keralite youth falls from Sharjah building

Our Correspondent

On July 31, a 24-year-old Keralite youth named Sumesh fell to his death from the sixth floor of a building in Al Dhaid, Sharjah. The victim, a native of Ernakulam district, was unmarried and is survived by his parents.

Sumesh came to the UAE a year ago to work as a civil engineer in a company in Sharjah’s Muwaileh area. His roommates said that he was troubled by some “personal issues” which he reportedly did not share with them. He did not have many friends or an active social life. They said that he was talking to someone on the phone and threw it down before jumping from the balcony on Eid day. He did not display any signs of depression before the incident, they said.

Social worker Ashraf Thamraserri is handling the repatriation of the body, and is in touch with his parents back in Kerala. After the police investigation and forensic procedures are done here, he is hopeful of being handed over the body in a couple of days and will proceed to embalming and completing all formalities required for repatriation.

E.P. Johnson, president on the Indian Association of Sharjah, said the body is likely to be repatriated on August 5.

Dr Aman Puri, Consul General of India in Dubai, has also offered assistance of the consulate if necessary.
