Kerala reports 2,938 new COVID-19 cases on Mar 2

A total of 2,938 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Kerala on March 2. The test positivity rate was recorded at 4.31 percent.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Thrissur- 354, Malappuram – 344, Kozhikode – 334, Ernakulam – 306, Kollam – 271, Pathanamthitta – 238, Kannur – 225, Kottayam – 217, Thiruvananthapuram – 190, Alappuzha – 161, Palakkad – 99, Kasaragod – 80, Idukki – 62 and Wayanad – 57.

A person who arrived from South Africa was confirmed with Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, none of the UK returnees tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 95 people who returned from foreign countries tested positive for the virus infection. 82 of them have recovered. So far, 11 patients have been identified with the mutant virus strain.

68,094 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. In total, 1,15,90,373 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.

Sixteen deaths were confirmed due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. The total number of deaths in the state has touched 4,226.

Fifty-eight of the coronavirus patients came from outside the state. 2,657 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 209 persons remains unidentified.

The district-wise statistics of contact cases: Thrissur- 348, Malappuram – 328, Kozhikode – 331, Ernakulam – 295, Kollam – 268, Pathanamthitta – 217, Kannur – 171, Kottayam – 206, Thiruvananthapuram – 124, Alappuzha – 153, Palakkad – 35, Kasaragod – 72, Idukki – 54 and Wayanad – 55.

Fourteen health workers also tested positive. Among them 7 were from Kannur, 4 from Ernakulam and 1 each from Kollam, Palakkad and Wayanad.

Meanwhile, 3,512 recoveries were reported today. The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram – 298, Kollam – 214, Pathanamthitta – 515, Alappuzha – 112, Kottayam – 200, Idukki – 128, Ernakulam – 470, Thrissur – 339, Palakkad – 129, Malappuram – 288, Kozhikode – 500, Wayanad – 102, Kannur – 142 and Kasaragod – 75.

There are 47,277 active Covid-19 cases in the state. 10,12,484 people have recovered from the disease. 2,05,315 people are currently under observation in the state.

Out of this, 1,98,311 are under home/institutional quarantine and 7,004 people are in hospitals. 635 people were taken to hospitals on March 2.

Three new hotspots were identified today and eight hotspots were removed from the list. Currently, there are 362 hotspots in the state.
