Kejriwal opposes 5-day institutional quarantine in Delhi

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has opposed Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal’s order of a five-day institutional quarantine for COVID-19 patients in Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party strongly objected to this order during a meeting with the Delhi Disaster Management Authority on June 20.
“When Indian Council of Medical Research gives the permission of isolation at homes for asymptomatic patients across the country, why should there be separate guidelines for Delhi? Most coronavirus patients are asymptomatic… how will we make arrangements for isolating them?” Mr. Kejriwal said during the meeting.
Responding sharply to the centre’s decision, Mr. Kejriwal further said that due to the fear of institutional quarantine asymptomatic and mild symptom patients will resist testing and this will further spread corona virus in the city.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia who was also present at the meeting later tweeted that (in hindi) the Delhi government objected to LG’s order on home isolation and that no decision has been taken so far. The meeting concluded without any agreement on the two issues discussed – cost of hospital beds in private hospitals and home isolation.
Earlier, the Delhi government called the decision of the central government arbitrary and said this will seriously harm the city as there is shortage of hospital beds amid the spiking corona virus cases. At present the city has the highest number of cases in India after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
