Javed Akthar files defamation case against Kangana Ranaut

Film lyricist and poet Javed Akthar filed a criminal complaint against actor Kangana Ranaut for making alleged defamatory statements against him on a private television news channel.

The complaint, filed before the Metropolitan Magistrate at Andheri, Mumbai, claims that Ranaut has dragged Akthar’s name unnecessarily in connection with the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.

Javed Akthar has asked for proceedings against Kangana Ranaut on the basis that the video interview garnered views in lakhs on various online platforms.

The lyricist has asked for a defamation case to be registered against Kangana Ranaut under section 499 and 500 of Indian Penal Code. The first hearing of the case has been kept for December 3, 2020.

Earlier in the day, Ranaut and her sister Rangoli were issued a second notice by the Mumbai Police to record their statements in connection with a case of allegedly promoting enimity between communities through their remarks.

Kangana Ranaut is in her hometown, Himachal Pradesh currently.
