India reports 67,000 new coronavirus cases

India has reported a spike of 67,000 new coronavirus cases on Thursday along with 680 deaths. With the latest rise in coronavirus cases, India’s Covid-19 tally now stands at over 73 lakh.

India currently has 73,07,098 coronavirus cases and 1,11,266 deaths, according to the health ministry data.

Among the 73 lakh cases, there are 8,12,390 active cases, 63,83,442 cured cases and 1,11,266 deaths, said the data released by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said the total number of samples tested up to October 14 in India is 9,12,26,305. ICMR has also said that 11,36,183 samples were tested on Wednesday.

Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-affected state with over 1.5 million cases recorded in the state. Over 40,000 people have died of Covid-19 infection in Maharashtra so far. Maharashtra has announced new unlock measures to ease restrictions.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s coronavirus tally has gone up to 3.17 lakh with authorities reporting 3,324 new cases on Wednesday (October 14) , while 44 fatalities took the number of deaths to 5,898. This is the second consecutive day that Delhi has reported more than 3,000 new coronavirus cases. A total of 3,036 cases were recorded on Tuesday.

Of the total cases reported in Delhi so far, 2,89,747 have either recovered, been discharged or migrated out.

The global tally of coronavirus cases stands at 38,729,174. While 29,113,040 have recovered, 1,096,320 have died so far. The US, the worst-hit country, has 8,148,928 cases. It is followed by India, which has 7,307,097 cases, Brazil (5,141,498) and Russia (1,340,409). France has declared public health state of emergency over Covid-19.
