India records 32,080 fresh Covid-19 infections

India recorded 32,080 fresh Covid-19 infections, and 402 fatalities in the past 24 hours, according to the Union health ministry on Wednesday.

Now, the total number of cases in the country stands at 97,35,850.

With more than 400 deaths in a day, the toll has mounted to 1,41,360. The country now has 3,78,909 active cases of coronavirus.

In the past 24 hours, 36,635 patients were discharged across the country, taking the total recovered patients to 92,15,581.

Also, 14,98,36,767 samples have been tested for coronavirus till Tuesday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Union health ministry said on Tuesday that some of the Covid-19 vaccine candidates may get emergency use authorisation in India in the next few weeks. Addressing a press conference on the Covid-19 situation in India, Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan said the Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech have applied for emergency use approval of their Covid-19 vaccine candidates.
