India elected to UNCSW as member

India has been elected as a member of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations T.S. Thirumurthi made the announcement on Twitter.
The tweet said: “India elected Member of Commission on Status of Women #CSW. It’s a ringing endorsement of our commitment to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in all our endeavours.

This is in recognition of its commitment to promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment. Thirumurthy thanked the member-states for their support. India has become a member of UNCSW for four years from 2021 to 2025.

India, Afghanistan and China competed for membership. Of the 54 member-states, India and Afghanistan received the votes to win, while China did not get even half the votes. While Afghanistan got 39 votes, India bagged 38 votes.
In June, India became a temporary member of the UN Security Council. India was elected to the post with 184 votes out of 192.
