Iconic Eden Gardens to be turned into quarantine centre for cops

The Kolkata Police on July 9 has got permission from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to use under galleries of Eden Gardens as a quarantine facility for its police personnel who have been infected by COVID-19.

The decision was taken in an emergency meeting held at the Kolkata Police Headquarters in Lal Bazaar with CAB officials and thereafter a joint inspection was undertaken at the Eden Gardens.

The under galleries namely E, F, G H and J blocks will be used to set up Covid-19 facilities. These areas would be properly segregated as a safety measure.

“It is our duty to help and support the administration in this hour of crisis. The facility will be used by personnel who are Covid-19 warriors,” CAB president Avishek Dalmiya said.

At the same time, the groundsmen and other staff will be shifted to blocks B, C, K and L inside the stadium.

So far 544 Kolkata Police personnel have tested positive for the virus, 411 have recovered and 2 have succumbed.
