Ernakulam, Kozhikode and Kollam districts faced the ‘real heat’ of the heavy summer rains. Crop loss in acres of agricultural land has been reported in hilly regions of Ernakulam and Kozhikode.
Thiruvananthapuram: Rains amid scorching summer in Kerala, deemed as a blessing in disguise, turned as bad as the intensity of the downpour affected many across the state.
Heavy rains have brought crop loss and damage to houses in many parts.In Ernakulam, the roofs of six houses were swayed in the strong winds. A similar case was reported from Kollam as well. Likewise, in Kozhikode’s Thenhipalam the makeshift resting place of the Federation Cup Athlete Meet collapsed.
Notably, IMD has issued yellow alerts for Ernakulam and Pathanamthitta. Similarly, except for Kasaragod, all other districts are likely to receive heavy rains with isolated thunderstorms in the next three hours.A rough estimate of damages in Ernakulam district alone on the last day stood at Rs 14 crore. 200 hectares of agricultural land were affected by the rain. There were water loggings in the city. Unexpected heavy rains of last day had battered Thiruvananthapuram city and its outskirts too.
