Muscat : Eng. Ahmed bin Ali Akaak, CEO of SEZAD, revealed that the completed first phase covers an area of 95 hectares out of the total 750-hectare complex, equivalent to 7.5 square kilometres. The complex is set to house 60 facilities and has been designed with future expansion in mind, allowing for growth as demand increases.
He pointed out that the detailed plan for the complex aims to foster investment and ensure smooth operational flow by separating service corridors from roads, factories, and other facilities. The plan includes several critical infrastructure developments, such as a cold chain complex, red meat industries complex, public utility services, a central market, fresh produce outlets, residential and commercial buildings, and entertainment services.
The commercial and administrative services area will be strategically located outside the complex boundaries, near the main gate. This area will include an administrative complex, commercial shops, a mosque, a guest house, public service centres, a fuel station, truck scales, and vehicle service centres. The main gate will be designed to reflect the identity of the Duqm Special Economic Zone.
Eng. Akaak further explained that the planning process involved multiple design phases, including gathering site data, conducting market and economic studies, and preparing the initial general plan and infrastructure networks for the first phase. The next step will be the preparation of a detailed master plan for the second phase, as well as the architectural design of the service buildings.
Located just 3 kilometres from the multi-purpose fishing port, the Fish and Food Industries Zone will play a vital role in enhancing the local economy. It will ensure smooth traffic flow and facilitate the import and export of products. The master plan has been designed with flexibility to accommodate future expansions, particularly to the southwest of the site.
The Fish and Food Industries Zond is expected to make a substantial economic contribution to the region. SEZAD is actively promoting the complex’s capabilities both locally and internationally, in collaboration with the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones.
