The protesting farmers’ unions camped at Delhi borders in India, will observe ‘Sadbhavna Diwas’ on Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary today and hold a day-long fast. They have also claimed that the farmers’ proest will gain momentum and strength as more farmers join them in the coming days. The claim came as more farmer outfits have started mobilising more batches of farmers from Haryana and Punjab to head towards Delhi’s borders to join the ongoing agitation against the farm laws as the government ordered to clear the sites of protest following the Republic Day violence.
When it seemed that the farmers’ protest was thinning out following the R-Day violence, thousands gathered at Muzaffarnagar for a kisan mahapanchayat and announced that they will begin heading towards the Ghazipur border from Saturday.
At the Singhu and Tikri borders, where the agitation against farm laws has been going on for over two months now, angry ‘locals’staged a protest demanding the removal of farmers. Irked over the violence in Delhi on January 26, locals marched towards the Tikri and Singhu borders, carrying the tricolour and placards, and shouted slogans against the farmer unions protesting there which led to a scuffle on Friday.
