Farmers’ protest: Kerala CM inaugurates anti-farm laws protest in T’puram

Farmer groups have appealed to those in Bihar and other states to join the agitation to further pressurise the government to repeal the three contentious farm laws. Meanwhile, thousands of farmers have started off from Maharashtra to join the protest at Delhi borders where farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have been camping for weeks.

Farmers coming from Uttar Pradesh to join those in Delhi were allegedly stopped by the police at the Moradabad toll plaza. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that he is hopeful that protesting farmers’ unions would soon complete their internal discussions and resume talks with the government to resolve the crisis.

Meanwhile hours after Kerala Governor refused to assent to a special assembly session to discuss new farm laws, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan is set to inaugurate an anti-farm laws agitation event in Thiruvananthapuram.

Greeting farmers on the occasion of Farmers’ Day today, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday and said that he hopes farmers will end their agitation soon.”

He said, “Today, on the occasion of Farmers Day, I greet all ‘annadaata’ of the country. They have provided the country with food security. Some farmers are agitated about agricultural laws. The government is talking to them with full sensitivity. I hope that they will withdraw their movement soon.”
