The Delhi Police has deployed additional measures, including tightening security and intensifying vigil at Delhi’s border points in India, to deal with any situation emerging out of the proposed ‘chakka jam’ by farmers protesting against the Centre’s farm laws. To assist Delhi police in maintaining law and order situation amid the event, paramiliarty forces have been deployed at various parts of Delhi-NCR including borders.
Heavy deployment of police personnel at the Red Fort as preventive measures to dispel actions resulting from calls for ‘Chakka Jam’. Drone cameras were deployed at Tikri to monitor situation along with extensive barricades and barbed wires on the roads to deal with any situation unwarranted situation.
The protesting farmers have decided to block roads and highways during the nationwide ‘chakka jam’ for three hours. There will be no ‘chakka jam’ in Delhi. The timings of the ‘chakka jam’ is 12 pm to 3 pm.
The Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have decided to extend their support to the nationwide chakka jam organised by Samyukta Kisan Morcha
Exit and entry gates of three metro stations- Mandi House, ITO and Delhi Gate—have been closed ahead of the Chakka Jam. At least 12 metro stations in Delhi have been put on alert.
Chakka jam, which the farmers have asserted will be peaceful, will not be held in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Saturday. Thousands of farmers, mostly from Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, have been camping at three Delhi border points — Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur — for over 70 days, demanding a complete repeal of three central farm laws.
The three farm laws are — Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
